Description of Work:

Wollongong is a buzzing city, with continual growth happening around the CBD as more and more people escape the hustle bustle of living in Sydney, chasing a more affordable way of life of a change of lifestyle. With this, is the large influx of demolition and construction within the Wollongong CBD paving the way for new housing. Wollongong City Excavation and Demolition (WCED) has been contracted by Piruse Constructions based out of Unanderra to complete a demolition of an existing building for some new apartment buildings. This job was a large job with a range of stakeholders and obstacles to factor in. One of the main hurdles was the fact that this demolition took place on the main road of Kembla Street, Wollongong with peak hour commuter traffic buzzing by just feet from our 20 tons Sumitomo machines bringing down a structure. Alongside this was the fact this structure was quite dated, with old and hazardous materials such as non-friable asbestos in eaves. The job required a complete demolition of the building, excavation of the existing concrete and footings and containing and ameliorating the site.
