Wollongong City Excavation and Demolition were contracted by Buildhigh for this project in the heart of Wollongong. This project consisted of two buildings spanning over 1500 square metres, with a high level of risk associated with this project sitting adjacent to new constructed commercial buildings and more importantly, bordering Wollongong Shopping Centre with many passers by throughout the day. The main building for this project was the old Nikolovski lawyers building, with the internal strip out and asbestos removal from this building. This project will present our team with a high level of planning and risk – mitigation. We will commence the demolition of the 5-storey building by hand, as the proximity to the neighbouring building and the pedestrians in the mall mean means the entire building cannot be demolished using an excavator and needs a hybrid approach of hand and machine to safely and effectively bring this building down.
